The hen on nest pattern, which features a hen perched on a basket, is one of the most iconic and sought-after designs from the Westmoreland Glass Company. This pattern was first made by Westmoreland in the 1920s and has since become a defining feature of the company's milk glass. The hen on nest dishes were initially made of more delicate milk glass compared to the later examples produced from the 1940s onwards. Westmoreland Glass was one of the top producers of fine quality milk glass in the United States, and the hen on nest dishes are considered some of the finest examples of the material in the country. Despite the closure of the Westmoreland Glass Company in 1984, the hen on nest pattern continues to be a popular and valuable item among collectors.
